How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people reading about a single-vehicle crash are likely to assume the driver just did something wrong. That’s always worth investigating, but jumping to conclusions isn’t going to help anyone. In fact, it can risk letting uncommon and complex factors slip through the cracks.

For example, I can’t remember the last time I saw a police investigation cover potential vehicle defects. These need proper, thorough accident investigations to rule out or confirm. I’ve actually had cases where authorities blamed a driver only for our independent investigations to find a defect they completely overlooked.

I’m not saying this crash involved a defect. Rather, it’s important to rule out that sort of thing before jumping to any conclusions. It that hasn’t happened here yet, something important might slip through the cracks.
