Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
I want to be clear up front that I don’t know anything more about this crash than what authorities released to the public. However, I have concerns anytime I read about a motorcycle accident. A lot of folks assume the worst about motorcyclists, and even authorities can jump to conclusions instead of focusing on letting the evidence speak for itself. This can lead to serious challenges for victims and families.
I’ve actually had commercial truck wreck cases where a motorcyclist was put at fault, then more thorough independent investigations showed authorities mishandled the investigation and came to the wrong conclusion. Motorcyclists and their families shouldn’t have to worry about having their side of the story told fairly, but they do. As such, it’s important to consider how a crash like this has been handled by officials and whether or not their efforts were able to proceed without bias twisting the narrative. If authorities can’t show that they’ve focused solely on the facts, then that may be the sign that independent investigators should step in and set things straight.
