Fort Wayne, IN — June 9, 2025, a motorcyclist was injured as the result of a soybean oil truck accident at around 9:00 p.m. in Downtown.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened after a semi-truck hauling soybean oil somehow leaked. It apparently leaked along Main Street, Lafayette Street, and Spy Run.

After this spill, authorities say multiple wrecks occurred. One involved a motorcyclist. That motorcyclist reportedly was seriously injured due to the accident. Right now, additional details about the cause of the leak remain unclear.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Obviously something went wrong here, but the different possible reasons for that can have very different legal implications.
For example, it could be that there was an error by the truck driver or a worker, and the tank wasn’t sealed properly. That could mean a company is responsible for their employee’s mistake. But it could also be that their mistake was the result of poor training, lack of experience, rushed deadlines, or other larger issues. That might demand more severe consequences.
Or, it could be there was an issue with the equipment itself. Was the tank or its parts worn? Did the company fail to keep up with regular inspections and repairs? Was this some unforeseeable defect that a manufacturer needs to answer for?
This all rarely comes to light just from typical police investigations. In my experience, it takes close and thorough inspections from professionals to rule out or confirm these kinds of possibilities. Are those steps being taken here? If not, important details might slip through the cracks.
