Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Teslas often draw a lot of attention due to various factors, but one that I get calls about a lot are potential defects. Tesla is still relatively new to the car industry, so there are bound to be concerns about undiscovered manufacturing issues as well as eyebrows raised when single-vehicle wrecks like this happen. Simply put, this is why I’m always so adamant about the importance of independent accident reconstructions.
Some police departments will take the time and utilize proper state-of-the-art tools to make sure something as complex as a possible vehicle defect gets attention. Perhaps they did so here. In my experience, though, defects often slip through the cracks because authorities don’t prioritize this area of accident reconstruction. As a result, officers lack the training and resources to properly inspect a vehicle. Unless there are more experienced independent investigators there to pick up the slack, crucial evidence may slip through the cracks.
To be clear, there could be any number of possible factors contributing to this crash. I simply wish to highlight how important it is that people know what investigators are looking into. It’s not that there may be something like a defect going on here; it’s just that families deserve to know someone is asking these questions so they can be sure nothing important is being overlooked. Are those steps being taken here?
