Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

People often jump to conclusions after single-vehicle accidents because a lot of them are the result of factors like speeding, fatigue, or distracted driving. But they can also involve other complex factors, like mechanical defects, road hazards, tire blowouts, alcohol, medical conditions, road design flaws, etc. Unless authorities are being thorough enough to at least rule out those possibilities, they could overlook something important. Perhaps authorities have been more thorough behind the scenes here to ensure the accident gets the attention it deserves. That said, it would be far from the first time a single-vehicle wreck needed more thorough independent investigations.
