I get a lot of calls from folks who waited around for authorities to get them answers only to feel they’re not really getting any information. A significant portion of those calls involve single-vehicle accidents. Simply put, they’re not always seen as a high priority, so authorities may not really pay enough attention to them. Add on top of that the fact some departments lack the equipment and experienced personnel for things like vehicle defects, road design issues, tire reconstruction, laser mapping, and other complex details, it’s easy for things to slip through the cracks or officers to make mistakes.

That’s why it’s important in these situations for victims and families to be proactive when they feel they may not be getting the whole story. Generally speaking, when folks feel answers from authorities are prompt and satisfactory, it’s usually because authorities are doing a good job. But if they find there are doubts that authorities aren’t able to alleviate, it could be that official investigations are coming up short. That’s when victims and families can take the steps necessary to pick up the slack and ensure their accident gets the attention it deserves.
