Laura Smith Burke, 1 Injured in Car Accident in Harris County, TX

Investigators said that 66-year-old Laura Smith Burke was a passenger in a Dodge Charger going along southbound Rhodes. For reasons unconfirmed right now, the vehicle went off the right side of the road. It hit the side of a raised driveway, then crashed along a drainage ditch.

Due to the accident, Burke had apparently moderate injuries. The man driving the Charger reportedly had serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With single-vehicle wrecks, one of the biggest hurdles is simply getting answers. A thorough accident reconstruction requires experience and tools to look into things like mechanical defects, tire failure, poor roadway design or maintenance, brake failure, etc.

Unfortunately, authorities don’t often have access to these resources. As a result, they sometimes assume the driver did something wrong without actually having evidence to support this. While they may be right most of the time, that inevitably leads to crucial details slipping through the cracks. My hope is to learn that authorities here were more prudent and let the evidence speak for itself.
