Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With multiple vehicles involved in a serious crash, it can be challenging for authorities to keep the story straight if they don’t focus on the evidence. As such, it can be helpful for victims and families involved in an accident to make sure authorities are gathering and securing the facts.

Are they analyzing debris patterns? Are there cameras at this intersection or at a nearby business or residence? Have they pulled cellphone records? Did they secure data from the vehicles? Have the vehicles been inspected for defects? Was alcohol a factor? Likely or not, it’s important to consider all possible factors. If something isn’t relevant, it can be definitively ruled out.

If something is important, a proper investigation can preserve the evidence for the victims and families to use going forward. Following up with authorities can help people determine if their situation is already in good hands or if they should have more thorough independent investigations step in so nothing important slips through the cracks.
