UPDATE (July 14, 2023): Recent information provided by authorities identified the woman killed in the accident as 38-year-old Kimberly Mendes. The current condition of the person left injured is not clear at this time. Investigations are ongoing.

Knoxville, TN — July 12. 2023, one person was killed and one was injured following a FedEx truck accident at around 7:30 a.m. along Alcoa Highway.

According to officials with the Knoxville Police Department, the collision occurred along the 1900 block of Alcoa Highway in the area of Cherokee Trail.

Officials at this time say that the incident happened as a sedan going southbound along Alcoa Highway was hit by a FedEx semi-truck. Investigators allege the FedEx truck was in the process of merging into another lane when it hit the sedan. As a result, the sedan lost control, went across the median, and crashed with a northbound SUV.

Due to the collision, the driver of the sedan was killed. The driver of the SUV sustained injuries described as serious but non-life-threatening. Neither victim has been publicly identified at the time of writing. Authorities have yet to release additional details about the crash, including whether or not there are pending charges.
