Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
At 6:00 a.m., a tractor-trailer stationary on an interstate is a serious hazard. What’s important right now is whether or not the reason that obstacle occurred was avoidable or not. For example, if a truck driver hits something in the road they couldn’t see, they may be just as helpless as anyone else involved. But another driver losing control due to something like fatigue or distraction is unacceptable, and a resulting collision could make them responsible for the consequences of those ensuing crashes. Are authorities working to determine the timing of these collisions and how they could have been avoided—if at all?
