Dallas, TX — December 9, 2023, Juan M. Zavala was injured following a car accident at around 1:00 a.m. on West 12th Street.
According to early investigations into the crash, the incident happened at the intersection of West 12th Street and South Hampton Road.
It appears that 27-year-old Juan Zavala was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle going westbound along 12th Street. At the intersection, the motorcycle somehow crashed into the back of a Chrysler. Zavala reportedly sustained serious injuries due to the crash. There were no other reported injuries.

My hope is that this crash got the attention it deserved. There’s always a concern with motorcycle wrecks that authorities might be too quick to blame the victim rather than letting the evidence speak for itself.
Unfortunately, a lot of folks see motorcyclists as reckless drivers despite many of them being incredibly safe. This can lead to situations where a motorcyclist is put at fault only for more thorough independent investigations to show they were a victim of circumstances beyond their control. Maybe that isn’t what happened here, but I’d discourage anyone from jumping to conclusions without knowing the facts.
