Joshua Schulze Killed in Electrocution Accident in Winters, TX

OSHA describes the events as Schulze raising a bucket lift past power lines to complete repair work, then reversing the maneuver after the work was done. Somehow, Schulze’s person made contact with a power line, electrocuting him. Authorities did not give additional details about the cause of the accident, but they do allege that Schulze did not have an insulated hard hat nor was the bucket lift insulated. These details have not been confirmed at this time.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

I would have to see evidence for myself to make any conclusive statements here, but the allegations are more than a little concerning on their own. Unless OSHA is being misleading here, the victim worked for a relatively well-established, large company. Something as simple as proper headgear and safe equipment shouldn’t be too hard for an employer like that to provide. So was the equipment just not being used, or was this worker forced to operate in dangerous conditions because his employer didn’t give him proper protective gear? I can only hope authorities were able to answer these questions for the victim’s loved ones, because their public statements seem far from telling the whole story.
