San Benito, TX — March 1, 2024, Joshua Alexander Ortiz was injured following a car accident at around 2:00 a.m. on Expressway 83/I-69E.
Initial details about the accident say that the crash happened on southbound lanes of the interstate just off 8th Street and F.M. 732.
According to investigators, 38-year-old Joshua Alexander Ortiz was in a Chevy Cruze going along the expressway approaching the exit for F.M. 732. The vehicle somehow crashed into the barricade at the beginning of the exit ramp. Due to the collision, Ortiz sustained apparently serious injuries. Additional factors can’t be confirmed right now.

It’s important to consider possible unavoidable factors like mechanical defects, road hazards, and tire blowouts after any single-vehicle wreck. Unfortunately, most people read about a single-vehicle wreck and immediately just assume the driver did something wrong. That’s obviously a common factor with single-vehicle accidents, but even in situations where authorities suggest factors like distracted or drunk driving, for example, there could be extenuating circumstances they overlooked. Right now, I see no reason why this crash would be an exception to that.
