Richardson, TX — March 18, 2024, Jose Alfonso Nava Jr. and one other were injured in a car accident at around 1:15 a.m. on the President George Bush Turnpike.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash happened along both directions of the toll road near Jupiter Road.

It appears that 25-year-old Jose Alfonso Nava Jr. was a passenger in a Toyota Rav4 that was going westbound along the Bush Turnpike. The vehicle somehow lost control and veered to the left. It crossed the median before overturning, landing along eastbound lanes.
As a result of the crash, Nava and the driver of the vehicle had apparently serious injuries. The exact cause of the crash can’t be confirmed right now. Without further information, hopefully no one is jumping to any rash conclusions. Unfortunately, that’s almost always what happens after single-vehicle wrecks.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Generally speaking, a lot can go wrong leading up to a single-vehicle wreck, and not every possibility is avoidable. Mechanical defects, tire blowouts, medical emergencies, road hazards, a hit-and-run, etc. These are all important to investigate, even if they seem unlikely. Even if something more common happened, though, there could still be extenuating circumstances to consider. Someone speeding could still experience a defect. A drunk driver may have been illegally over-served by a negligent bar. Faulty safety devices could fail to prevent otherwise preventable injuries.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t do any good to jump to conclusions when nothing but the preliminary details are available. Unless there is more information available than what’s in these statements, the full story of what happened here likely has yet to be told.
