Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With a single-vehicle crash like this, one thing to consider is how thorough authorities have been. They’re not always motivated to take single-vehicle crashes seriously, and that’s when important details can slip through the cracks.
For example, I handled a case not long ago a family had concerns about because authorities said their loved one hadn’t been wearing a seatbelt. That seemed unusual to them, so they asked us to look into things. More thorough investigations showed that the driver had a defective seatbelt, which actually ended up being the cause of their injuries. Had the family ignored their doubts and just assumed authorities were right, the truth may never have come to light.
Of course, there are times independent investigations show that authorities already know all there is to know. But when things aren’t adding up, or if authorities aren’t able to provide satisfactory answers, it can be a sign that their investigations alone aren’t going to cut it.
