Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When it comes to motorcycle wrecks, my concern is always whether or not investigations were unbiased and thorough. A lot of people think poorly of motorcycle riders based on preconceived notions that they’re all reckless drivers. Authorities are not immune from this all too common way of thinking.
I know from experience, though, that most are incredibly safe drivers. In fact, they’re often the victims of other reckless motorists, objects in the road, poor lighting or signage, or shoddy roadway maintenance that can cause bikes to lose control without the victim having any warning or chance to recover.
That’s why independent investigators, who are able to put bias aside and let the evidence speak for itself, tend to handle these kinds of accidents properly. Perhaps authorities here were able to do so, as well, but that’s something I personally wouldn’t take for granted.
