Bridge City, TX — July 19, 2024, Jesse Hedrick was fatally injured due to an alleged intoxicated driver accident at around 1:00 a.m. on F.M.1442.
According to officials, the accident happened in the 1300 block of F.M. 1442 off the corner of the intersection with Miller Drive.

Initial details from authorities say that 41-year-old Jesse Hedrick was on a bicycle going along F.M. 1442/West Roundbunch/Gulf States Drive. While going along the road, it appears a Honda Civic struck Hedrick. As a result, Hedrick sustained fatal injuries.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Authorities at this time allege that the Honda driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident. They issued a charge for intoxication manslaughter. No further information is available at this time, but these details seem to paint a pretty open-and-shut situation. However, there may still be more to this story if authorities haven’t also looked into whether or not the alleged intoxicated driver was illegally over-served by a local alcohol provider.
Everyone is keen to see accountability when something as senseless as intoxicated driving takes someone’s life. But too often, authorities focus all of their efforts on the intoxicated driver, meanwhile there’s a local bar or similar establishment that broke the law, is legally responsible for their role in the accident, and is simply being let off the hook. I can’t count how many times across hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers I’ve handled where authorities only took steps after we’d already brought the alcohol provider to light. Maybe nothing like that would be necessary here, but I don’t see enough information in these reports yet to trust this all is telling the whole story.
