How Did This Accident Occur?

People tend to jump to conclusions with single-vehicle wrecks, and I always caution against that. Regardless of what the common factors are in crashes like this, it’s important that investigations cover as much ground as possible.

For example, it’s unknown right now if authorities have found any vehicle defects here. I’m curious if they’ve even bothered to look. I can’t begin to count how many serious car accident cases I’ve handled where authorities completely ignored the possibility of a defect just because they felt it was unlikely or not worth their time.

I recall a crash not long ago, for example, where they even blamed a driver for not wearing their seatbelt. From our independent investigations, however, it turned out the seatbelt failed due to a defect. Without those independent investigations, there’s no telling if the truth ever would have come to light.

I’m not saying that happened here, just to be clear. It’s just one possibility, but it’s one I too often see slip through the cracks. Ultimately, a serious crash demands looking into all possible factors until the full story is clear. If anyone thinks that’s unnecessary or too much effort, I’d be curious to hear why.
