Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

After any serious crash, it’s important for victims and families to gauge how they feel about responses they receive from authorities. I get calls all the time from folks worried that authorities either aren’t giving their situation enough attention or are more focused on placing blame than actually getting both sides of the story. Generally speaking, a prudent path forward is to take any concerns and questions to the authorities.

Have authorities pulled vehicle data? Did they map out the crash site? Have they pulled cell phone records? Have they inspected the vehicles for defects? Are there nearby cameras that may have caught the crash on video? Are there witnesses who have yet to make a statement? Did road conditions or signage contribute to the crash?

Simply put, if a family feels authorities can offer clear, satisfying answers, then it’s likely they’re doing good investigations. If the answers aren’t adding up or seem to leave doubts, then that may be a sign that the crash needs another set of eyes looking things over to ensure nothing important slipped through the cracks.
