Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It’s not clear exactly what happened here, but something to keep in mind is that single-vehicle wrecks can involve some complex factors which drivers can’t always foresee or avoid. Mechanical issues, tire blowouts, medical conditions, poor road design or maintenance, manufacturers’ defects, etc. The problem is authorities don’t always have the experience and equipment necessary to investigate those possibilities. As a result, victims sometimes get blamed for situations they had no or little control over. That’s not exactly common, of course, but until all the facts are clear, it would be irresponsible to jump to conclusions. Right now, I don’t see any reason why this crash would be an exception to that.
