Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

To be clear, I don’t know anything more about this crash than what’s already public. From what I do see, though, I have to wonder why there isn’t more attention on this crash. Authorities say there was an 18-wheeler on the wrong side of a highway, a fatal crash occurred, and no one seems to be asking any questions. Why was the truck on the wrong side of the road? How did it enter oncoming lanes? Is the driver inexperienced? Were they intoxicated? Did their employer force them to work long hours? Have they made mistakes like this before? Were they attempting to turn around? Did they come from a nearby place of business? Are there any witnesses who can corroborate these details?

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that it’s incredibly difficult for someone to get on the wrong side of the road while being in their right state of mind. Maybe authorities misreported what actually happened here. Or, it could be that there were extenuating circumstances that could offer a reasonable explanation for all of this. But right now, the details I see point to a supposed professional commercial truck driver doing something that’s almost always easily avoidable. Experience tells me there has to be more to this story, and I can only hope authorities have been able to offer a better explanation of what went wrong here to the family than what they’ve offered to the public. Anyone affected by a crash with troubling details like these should be absolutely certain they’re getting the answers they deserve.
