Smith County, TX — July 14, 2024, Isai Aguillon was injured as the result of a car accident at around 12:30 a.m. along County Road 37.
According to officials, the crash took place in the area of County Road 37 and F.M. 14 north of Tyler.
Investigators said that 19-year-old Isai Aguillon was in a GMC Sierra going eastbound along C.R. 37. While doing so, the vehicle somehow lost control, causing it to run off-road and crash into a fence line. Due to the accident, Aguillon sustained serious injuries. There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the accident.

When it comes to crashes involving teenagers, my concern is always if authorities are being thorough enough. Due to teenagers being statistically more likely to make mistakes, authorities often rule out possibilities the victim may not have been responsible for without actually looking at the evidence. There could be extenuating circumstances.
Mechanical issues, tire blowouts, road hazards, someone providing alcohol to a minor, roads with insufficient signage or lighting, medical conditions—likely or not, these things happen. That’s why it’s important for investigations to either rule out those factors or confirm them with a thorough accident reconstruction. Whether or not those efforts are being made here remains to be seen, but it’s not something to take for granted.
