Joplin, MO — January 7, 2025, two people were injured in a hit-and-run truck accident at approximately 4:45 p.m. along Interstate Highway 44.
According to authorities, the accident took place on I.H. 44 in the vicinity of the exit for Hearnes Boulevard.
The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a passenger vehicle was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler. The impact apparently caused the passenger vehicle to veer to the side, crashing into a barrier before coming to a stop.
Two of the people who had been in the passenger vehicle sustained injuries of unknown severity, according to reports; they were transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. The rear-ending truck allegedly fled the scene, the person(s) inside failing to stop and render aid of any sort to the victims.
