How Did This Accident Occur?
A crash at an intersection typically is typically a matter of right of way, suggesting one vehicle failed to yield to the other, but at this point we don’t know which one that is. Traffic or security cameras near the intersection may help clear up that question, but in my experience that isn’t guaranteed to show us what caused this crash.
What if one of these vehicles, both well more than a decade old, had a mechanical issue that cause unexpected acceleration or brake failure?
That is something that most law enforcement agencies are not equipped to handle, since their focus is often documenting the scene and clearing traffic as quickly as possible. If authorities can’t or won’t check out the vehicles involved in this crash for defects or breakdowns, then perhaps an independent investigation is needed.
