Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Officials haven’t supplied any theories about what might have caused this crash, and while they’re still gathering information it’s best not to jump to any conclusions. Some may have guesses based on the few details in the news, but that’s like trying to guess what picture a puzzle makes with only a handful of pieces in place. Getting the whole picture takes time, patience, and resources, and little as I like saying it police don’t always have enough of those to go around.

That’s not to knock police efforts, only to say that traffic accidents like this one don’t always get as high a priority as they deserve. Many departments are stretched too thin to do more than reach a “good enough” conclusion for their reports before moving on, but someone lost their life on the road in Pharr. Making sure that person’s loved ones know the whole story—and whether anyone should be held accountable—seems like a major priority to me.
