Parker County, TX — May 26, 2024, Gregory Schlib and three others were killed and one woman was injured in a car accident at about 2:15 p.m. on Farm to Market 51.

According to authorities, four people—a 42-year-old woman, 66-year-old Gregory Schlib, and two 9-year-old girls—were traveling in a northbound Ford F-150 on F.M. 51 in the vicinity south of the Friendship Road intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a southbound Subaru Legacy occupied by a 29-year-old woman failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It veered left, according to reports, crossing over the center line. A head-on collision consequently occurred between the Legacy and the pickup truck.

Schlib, the two 9-year-old girls, and the woman from the Legacy reportedly sustained fatal injuries over the course of the accident. The woman who had been behind the wheel of the pickup truck suffered serious injuries, as well. EMS transported her to an area medical facility so that she could receive necessary treatment.

Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Crashes where a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic and causes a head-on collision demand more than surface-level answers. When lives are lost—especially multiple lives—the focus must shift from assumptions to real investigation. What caused the vehicle to veer? Could it have been prevented? Those are the questions that matter most.

Did the authorities thoroughly investigate the crash?
Crossing the center line into opposing lanes is a serious breakdown in control, and the reasons behind it aren’t always obvious. Did the Subaru drift gradually or swerve suddenly? Was there any evidence of braking or evasive action? Investigators should have mapped the impact points, vehicle paths, and road markings to figure out how the crash unfolded. Without that kind of detail, it’s difficult to move beyond speculation.

Has anyone looked into the possibility that a vehicle defect caused the crash?
When a vehicle suddenly leaves its lane, mechanical failure is a possibility that should never be ignored. A steering issue, tire failure, or even a malfunctioning lane-keeping system could cause a car to veer with little or no warning. If the Subaru wasn’t inspected for these possibilities, then a key piece of the puzzle may be missing. Crashes this severe deserve that level of scrutiny.

Has all the electronic data relating to the crash been collected?
Modern vehicles like the Subaru often hold critical data about what happened just before a crash—steering input, braking, speed, and even lane position alerts. That data could confirm whether the driver attempted to respond or whether the car behaved in a way that suggests loss of control. Without that information, everyone is left guessing at what went wrong—and why.

Head-on crashes are among the deadliest on the road, but that doesn’t mean they’re always unavoidable. When so many lives are affected, the real question becomes: Did anyone look deep enough to understand why this happened?

  • Head-on collisions require full reconstruction to explain how lane departures occurred.
  • Vehicle inspections can uncover silent system failures that cause sudden loss of control.
  • Black box data may be the only record of what actions the driver took before the crash.
