How Did This Accident Occur?

This early in the morning, people might be quick to assume fatigue was the likely culprit that caused this crash. First of all, there are all kinds of possible factors to consider, common and uncommon alike. They all deserve attention. But even if something common like fatigue led to this crash, the reason why that happened may be far more complex.

For example, commercial vehicle accidents raise concerns about what a driver’s work environment was like. I had a case not long ago where fatigue was the cause of the crash. What authorities failed to investigate, though, was that the driver had been behind the wheel for over 20 hours straight. Their employer routinely pressured drivers to meet ludicrous deadlines. If drivers failed to do so, they risked their livelihood. Inevitably, people were going to get hurt, and that’s exactly what happened.

That kind of behavior is important to bring to light both for the families who deserve answers and to correct that behavior before more people are hurt. Maybe this all happened due to an isolated mistake or even some one-in-a-million, unavoidable issue like a vehicle defect. My point is that investigations into a crash this serious need to go far beyond the surface. In the meantime, if anyone knows more about what may have happened here, I welcome their input.
