West Palm Beach, FL — December 4, 2024, Gaspar Hernandez was killed and another was injured following a truck accident sometime in the morning on Dixie Highway.
According to authorities, 24-year-old Gaspar Lopez Hernandez was a passenger traveling in a westbound Isuzu box truck on East Summa Street approaching the South Dixie Highway intersection when the accident took place.

The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the box truck entered the intersection at an apparently unsafe time, failing to yield the right-of-way to highway traffic at a stop sign. This resulted in a collision with a GMC Yukon which had been heading northbound on South Dixie Highway.
Hernandez and the person who had been behind the wheel of the truck suffered serious injuries as a result of the wreck. They were both transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. However, Hernandez was ultimately unable to overcome the severity of his injuries, having there been declared deceased. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When crashes like this occur, it’s easy to assume they result from a single mistake on the road. However, in my experience, accidents involving commercial vehicles like box trucks often involve more complex contributing factors that require careful investigation.
What led to the box truck’s failure to yield at the intersection? Was the driver distracted, perhaps by something inside the truck or on their phone? Fatigue may also be a factor, particularly if the driver had been working long hours. Alternatively, did the driver misjudge the speed or proximity of oncoming traffic? Answering these questions is critical to determining what went wrong and why.
The condition of the truck itself also deserves scrutiny. Commercial vehicles require rigorous maintenance to ensure their brakes, steering, and other essential systems are functioning properly. If the truck’s condition contributed to this crash, the investigation must consider whether the company responsible for the vehicle fulfilled its obligation to keep it roadworthy.
It’s equally important to examine the role of the company employing or contracting the driver. Were they pressuring the driver to meet tight delivery deadlines, potentially encouraging unsafe decisions? Did they provide sufficient training to help the driver navigate intersections safely? If not, they may bear some responsibility for what occurred.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the accident. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain critical evidence, it’s essential to examine every factor to ensure those impacted by the incident receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
