Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
I’ve seen in the news statements from FlixBus, which appears to be the company name on the side of the bus involved in the crash. However, they’ve made clear they’re a “broker.” I can’t say one way or another what role, if any, the named company played in the accident. However, it helps exemplify why commercial bus accidents can be so complex.
I’ve handled hundreds of commercial vehicle accident cases. One of the biggest challenges is simply dealing with companies who have one priority: avoid as much responsibility as possible. When there are suddenly multiple potential commercial interests involved, victims and families can easily find themselves caught in the middle of a storm of blame-shifting and finger-pointing. That’s why the families who are prepared as soon as possible to put themselves on even footing usually have the best chances at getting a fair resolution after a serious accident. Regardless of what all caused this crash, it’s very likely any path forward would require similar steps to anticipate such hurdles.
