The Ford was proceeding through the intersection as permitted by a green light indication when, for reasons yet to be confirmed, an eastbound Jeep Grand Cherokee on 8th Street disregarded a solid red light and proceeded into the intersection at an unsafe time. This resulted in a collision with the southbound Ford Escape. The collision reportedly caused the Jeep to go into a spin southwest across the intersection, entering a sidewalk where it hit a fire hydrant and a fence. The Ford also went into a southwestward spin, striking a curb and overturning to the left, where it struck a light pole before returning to four wheels and finally came to rest.

Nkiyokubwayo, the 19-year-old passenger of the Ford, and the 37-year-old driver of the Jeep all incurred suspected minor injuries during the accident. The 11-year-old girl who had been in the Ford, however, sustained suspected severe injuries. All four were transported to local medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.

The accident is under active investigation by local authorities. Charges against the driver of the Jeep are reportedly pending. The weather and road conditions in the area at the time were reportedly clear and dry. There are not currently any additional details available pertaining to this incident.
