Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

There isn’t much clear information about this crash right now, and I have to wonder how much of that is a lack of attention from the news versus lack of attention from police. It would surprise folks how many times I’ve had families come to me about a deadly car accident where it turned out authorities barely scratched the surface before moving on.

Unfortunately, accident reconstruction just isn’t always a high priority for police. This can result in incomplete and shallow investigations that led crucial details slip through the cracks. That’s why I talk about the importance of secondary independent accident reconstructions. At worst, they may simply confirm what authorities already know, which can itself be a significant weight off a family’s shoulders. At best, though, they can catch crucial information that authorities missed and help families ensure their loved one’s side of the story is told fairly.
