Eric Gomez Injured in Motorcycle Accident in Deaf Smith County, TX

It appears that 50-year-old Eric Faustino Gomez was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle which was going northeast along U.S. 60. While doing so, a Chevy Silverado going the same direction failed to control speed and crashed into Gomez. This resulted in Gomez being taken from the scene with possibly serious injuries.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Authorities say the cause of the crash was the pickup driver falling asleep at the wheel. As cut-and-dry as that seems, it’s always important to know if authorities missed anything important. There could always be extenuating circumstances to consider. For example, out in these rural areas, pickups can sometimes be work-related vehicles. That could raise questions about someone working unreasonable hours due to a negligent employer, leading to an inevitable fatigue-related accident. Or, initial investigations may be out of date, and authorities found the driver was drunk and was over-served by a local bar who may also be responsible for contributing to the accident. I’m not saying any of that happened here, but if authorities ignored something they felt was unlikely, they could have missed something important.
