Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When it comes to motorcycle wrecks, I get calls from a lot of people who felt that authorities weren’t really interested in hearing their side of the story. Frankly, that’s because a lot of people have a negative bias against motorcyclists. They’re quick to jump to conclusions rather than waiting for the evidence to tell the story. Unfortunately, authorities can fall into this trap, as well, and it can leave riders in a position where they can only tell their side of the story if there are independent investigators around to pick up the slack authorities left behind.
Now, this isn’t always necessary. If folks feel authorities have been sensible and thorough enough to let the evidence speak for itself, then there might not be anything left to tell. But if it seems their investigations were impacted by a negative bias against motorcyclists, their efforts alone might not be enough to tell the whole story.
