Ellis County, TX — August 24, 2024, Demetrio Cervantes was injured following a train accident at around 7:00 p.m. along F.M. 984.
According to initial details about the accident, the crash took place in the area of the F.M. 984 and Roach Road intersection just outside the town of Bardwell.
Investigators said that 46-year-old Demetrio Cervantes was in a Toyota Tacoma going eastbound on F.M. 984. At the railroad crossing, the pickup somehow crashed into a passing train. As a result, Cervantes was seriously injured. No one else appeared to be injured.
With train accidents, people tend to jump conclusions due to the fact trains are generally avoidable. But I always talk about the importance of considering even unlikely possible scenarios, and I wouldn’t consider train accidents an exception to that. There may have been issues with the crossing arm or signals. There may have been obstructions to visibility at the crossing.
