Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
The details in preliminary reports may look rough, but as always I must encourage reserved judgment until more facts come to light. No one can say they have the whole picture from a few short sentences in the news, and there can always be hidden details that only careful investigation can find.
Right now there are still many questions that need answers, not speculation. If the young man fled from the nightclub when police showed up as reports suggest, why? How fast was he traveling in the Camaro? Why did it leave the road—did the driver make a mistake, or could something have happened to the car? Did it blow a tire? What were road, weather, and visibility conditions at the time? Was the car malfunctioning or defective? Did the victim know the area?
I’m not suggesting I know more than police have said; I read the same public information as everyone else. I just know from years of experience that things are rarely as simple as they may appear. The best way to learn the true story, and to get real answers for the people who need and deserve them, is to let only facts do the talking. I just hope the victim’s loved ones are satisfied with what police learn.
