Miami County, OH — June 12, 2023, David Wright and Jon Weidel were killed and James Keller and Ray Adams were injured in a truck accident at 11:00 a.m. on I-75.
Authorities with the Ohio State Highway Patrol were called to the area of northbound lanes near mile marker 66, just north of Dayton.
According to investigating officials, 77-year-old David Wright was driving a van northbound along the interstate. It appears that a semi-truck in southbound lanes lost tandem tires, which came off the truck and flew into northbound lanes. There, the wheels slammed into Wright’s van.
As a result of the collision, Wright and a passenger, 72-year-old Jon Weidel, sustained fatal injuries. Two other passengers were reportedly injured. Reports identified the victims as 58-year-old James Keller and 71-year-old Ray Adams. Another person, Charles Backus III, was apparently taken to a hospital, but reports say Backus wasn’t hurt.
Right now, it’s unclear why the wheels came off the truck. Authorities have yet to release additional details about the crash as investigations are ongoing.
