Crowley, TX — June 26, 2024, Courtney Covington was injured following a car accident at around 1:15 a.m. along Smith Street.
Initial details about the accident say that it happened in the area of the Smith Street and South Driskell Street intersection.
Authorities said that 28-year-old Courtney Nichole Covington was in a Nissan Sentra going westbound on Smith Street. For reasons which aren’t clear right now, the Nissan crashed with a parked Jeep. This caused the Nissan to overturn. Covington sustained serious injuries in the crash. There did not appear to be anyone else involved.

With accidents like this, one of the first things I consider is if authorities are handling the investigations properly. They certainly can and have done so, but I’ve handled too many situations where it turned authorities either jumped to conclusions or failed to consider complex factors, letting something important slip through the cracks. A proper accident reconstruction has to be able to cover everything from medical conditions to distractions to mechanical defects to even roadway design and maintenance. Otherwise, victims and families can end up out in the wind with unanswered questions and doubts. It remains to be seen how well this situation is being handled.
