McLennan County, TX — September 19, 2024, Christopher Diaz was killed following a side-by-side accident at around 8:30 p.m. along Mary Ware Drive.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened in the area of Gholson off Mary Ware Drive and Jake Sparks Drive.
Investigators said that 49-year-old Christopher Lee Diaz was on a Can-Am side-by-side traveling along northbound Mary Ware. Somehow, the vehicle lost control and overturned, ejecting Diaz. As a result, Christopher Diaz was killed. It appears no one else was involved in the crash. Investigations are ongoing.

With non-standard vehicles like this, I’m always concerned if investigators are giving the accident the attention it deserves. Single-vehicle wrecks are often low on the list of priorities for the police, so there’s already a risk they’re going to let something slip through the cracks. If it’s a vehicle they’re not used to looking into, that only raises that concern further. I always talk about the value of independent investigations for that very reason, as it can help reassure people they’re getting the full story. I don’t see why this accident would be an exception.
