Bastrop County, TX — September 22, 2024, Christiana Yanez and a teenager were injured following an alleged DWI accident at around 9:23 p.m. along Highway 304.
Authorities said in initial statements that the accident took place along Highway 304 in the area of Watterson Road near Clearview.

Investigators said that 41-year-old Christiana Yanez and a 14-year-old were in a Honda Fit going eastbound along Highway 304. At Watterson, a northbound Honda CR-V reportedly failed to yield and crossed into the path of the Honda Fit. As a result, the vehicles collided. Both Yanez and the 14-year-old were injured as a result of the crash.

The other driver allegedly was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Authorities recommended charges, but there’s a good chance the story doesn’t end there. This is because a lot of accidents like this involve drivers who were unlawfully over-served by an alcohol provider. If somewhere like a bar or restaurant over-serves someone who is obviously intoxicated, they can face criminal investigations, fines, license suspensions, and even liability.
The problem, though, is this tends to slip through the cracks. I’ve handled hundreds of cases against negligent alcohol providers for their role in a serious accident. It’s rare that authorities were ever conducting their own investigations. We usually had to put the alcohol providers on the authorities’ radar before any kind of criminal or administrative investigations took place.
That’s one of the reasons I talk about this area of the law so much on this blog. The more people understand their rights, the more steps they can take to find out if authorities are looking out for their best interests, and the sooner they can seek out alternative legal avenues if they find authorities are coming up short.
