The cause of the accident remains unclear. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the pickup truck failed to safely maintain its lane of travel. It reportedly veered out of the active lanes of travel where it crashed into a guardrail before barreling down the concrete embankment of an overpass. As it entered the grassy median, however, it overturned, rolling an unknown number of times before coming to a stop resting on its wheels. Fernandez suffered fatal injuries as a result of the wreck. Additional details are not available at this point in time.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When it comes to crashes like this, things can often be more complex than people may realize. While there are certainly common factors authorities look into. The problem is when they feel a crash like this is a low priority, so they move on too quickly without actually getting all of the facts. Things like mechanical issues, faulty brakes or tires, victims over-served by alcohol providers, road design flaws, and other such possible factors require a lot of time and effort to properly investigate. Without the right tools and experience, something can easily slip through the cracks. That’s why I wonder if this accident is being taken seriously or if it’s going to be another situation where a family is left on their own looking for answers.
