Denton County, TX — November 14, 2023, Cesar Vasquez was injured as the result of a semi-truck accident at 3:54 a.m. along Business Highway 121.
Authorities said in their statements that the crash happened at the intersection of East State Highway 121 Business and the I-35E frontage road.

According to officials, 42-year-old Cesar Vasquez was in a Toyota Corolla traveling westbound through the intersection. Authorities say there is video evidence from a nearby fire station that shows Vasquez had a green light while crossing. Before making it through, however, an 18-wheeler alleged failed to yield and crashed into Vasquez’s vehicle, resulting in incapacitating injuries.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
One thing which stood out in public statements was that the passenger in the truck was apparently training the truck driver at the time of the accident. Police say the driver said they had a green light, and the passenger supposedly had their head down when the crash happened. Here’s why this stands out to me.
If an inexperienced driver is behind the wheel, and they make a mistake, that’s not really unusual. But I would expect the more experienced driver of the two to at least be paying attention enough that they could describe the events and admit to that mistake. The fact that apparently didn’t happen here concerns me because if these people are working for a specific company, how effective is this training process? Was this just an isolated incident, or is there a history of drivers for this company making mistakes and causing accidents?
I certainly can’t say what did or didn’t happen here, but if there really is video evidence to show how this crash happened, a prudent investigator would then work toward answering why the crash happened. Why is it that a truck driver, according to police, failed to follow a pretty simple traffic law, causing serious injuries to someone? Why is it the supposedly more experienced passenger couldn’t tell police what happened? Why did it take authorities tracking down video evidence to tell the victim’s side of the story here? And, is that video evidence really telling the whole story?
