Austin, TX — September 22, 2024, an 11-year-old boy was seriously injured in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 290 in Austin.

According to authorities, the incident happened around 1:00 a.m. on the US-290 service road at Cross Park Drive. Preliminary investigation suggests a 34-year-old man was driving a Chrysler 300 sedan south on Cross Park, allegedly evading police and driving at high speeds, when he reportedly disregarded a stop sign at the service road intersection. The car continued south and crashed into the concrete base of a light pole.

Child Injured in Single-Vehicle Accident on US-290 in Austin, TX

An 11-year-old child in the car was taken to an area hospital for treatment of suspected serious injuries. A 15-year-old passenger received possible injuries and was treated at the scene; the driver was unhurt.

Police reported finding alcohol and marijuana in the vehicle and drew blood from the driver on suspicion of intoxication. Results are pending.
