As open-and-shut as these details may seem, it’s always important to be thorough in investigations following a serious crash. Even if it seems clear someone did something wrong, victims fare better having as much evidence tell their side of the story as possible.

In a crash like this, for example, the fact that a lot of people are quick to assume the worst of teen drivers might give an insurance company an opportunity to shift the blame. Making sure there are as few gaps in the story as possible can keep the story straight and ensure no muddying of the waters.

The sooner steps are taken to preserve evidence, the more there will be working in the favor of the victims and families involved in the crash.
