Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
There’s something I want folks to consider anytime they read about a serious car accident from now on. Generally speaking, the public only ever gets to hear some preliminary information gathered through an initial glance of the scene from authorities. Their priorities are usually clearing the crash scene, then looking for any potential crimes or violations to address. Far down their list of priorities is getting clear answers and help for the victims and families affected by the crash.
That’s ultimately why so many crashes end up in the hands of independent investigators. Families reasonably want to be sure they’re getting the whole story. If authorities can’t reassure them that they’re going to consider all possibilities rather than just looking for someone to blame, then of course families would rather have fair, unbiased accident reconstructionists look things over. So, regardless of what happened in this crash, it’s important to take details with a grain of salt until there can be some guarantee that all factors are getting the attention they deserve.
