Lombard, IL — March 16, 2024, a worker was killed and one was injured due to a semi versus bucket truck accident at around 8:30 p.m. along Route 53.
Initial details about the crash say it happened in the suburb west of Chicago at the intersection of Route 53 and North Avenue.

It appears that the victim was one of two workers operating a bucket truck. While they did so, a box truck somehow crashed into the bucket truck, seriously injuring both workers. One of those workers died following transport to the hospital. Neither victim has been identified at this time. It’s unclear if charges or citations were ever issued. No other details are currently available.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
I have to wonder if authorities have conducted thorough investigations behind the scenes, considering how few details about this crash are available. Generally when a truck crash happens and the facts aren’t clear, people assume they just have to wait for police to investigate things. That’s not always as prudent as it may seem.
Authorities may do well giving basic facts, but the less obvious factors often involved in commercial truck wrecks—like mechanical issues or a trucking company’s safety practices—easily slip through the cracks. It’s one of the reasons people in my profession and even many police departments rely on independent accident reconstructionists to dig into those challenging aspects that require more experience and specialized tools. The current lack of information on this accident makes me wonder if those steps were ever taken here.
