New York, NY — April 19, 2025, a bicyclist was killed as the result of a firetruck accident at around 4:00 p.m. along Juniper Boulevard.
Preliminary details about the accident say that it happened at the intersection of Juniper Boulevard and 80th Street.
According to officials, a man was on a bicycle traveling along Juniper Boulevard. A firetruck was going northbound on 80th street, reportedly with its lights and sirens on. As the firetruck turned onto Juniper, it reportedly struck the bicyclist.
Due to the collision, the cyclist was killed. Right now, further information about the accident remains unclear. Investigations are ongoing.

People sometimes assume that when an emergency vehicle has its lights and sirens on, it automatically puts responsibility on everyone else around them to avoid an accident. But emergency personnel are still responsible for behaving reasonably. That’s why it’s important in these situations to be just as thorough in the investigations as with any truck accident. At the end of the day, the victim’s loved ones deserve to know how all of this could have been avoided.
