Galveston, TX — September 15, 2024, a bicyclist was injured following a car accident at around 4:49 a.m. along Seawall Boulevard.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident took place in the area of the Seawall Boulevard and 89th Street intersection.
According to officials, a 47-year-old man was on a bicycle along Seawall at the time. While on eastbound lanes of travel, it appears a vehicle struck the cyclist. The victim sustained serious injuries as a result. There were no other reported injuries.

While unconfirmed right now, authorities said they were looking into alcohol as a potential factor. While folks tend to think that makes a situation open-and-shut, it can actually make things a lot more complex. If, for example, an alcohol provider unlawfully over-serves someone, that can make the alcohol provider responsible if that person gets themselves or someone else hurt. Frankly, authorities tend to overlook that possibility, which is one of the reasons I try to shine a light on these kinds of accidents as much as possible. It remains to be seen if this accident is getting the attention it deserves.
