Upton County, TX — February 21, 2023, Armando Ortiz Gonzalez was killed as the result of a truck accident at around 11:00 a.m. at a well site.
Authorities with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration released preliminary details in an inspection summary. Their statements say the incident occurred at “Cordes Lease Well No. 8002,” which online records show is between Midkiff and Crane near F.M. 1492 and Highway 329.
Details from OSHA investigators indicate that 56-year-old Armando Ortiz Gonzalez was working as a drill operator at the time. While reportedly under a tanker truck, the driver began to move the truck, and it ran over Ortiz Gonzalez.
Ortiz Gonzalez sustained fatal injuries as a result of the accident. In the OSHA reports, two “serious” violations were listed, both of which have apparently been contested. A current recommended penalty of $14,063 is listed. Currently, no further information is available.
