Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

When you handle all kinds of serious car accidents across a decades-long career, you start to notice things that others tend to overlook. For example, it’s unusual to see just one person involved in a chain-reaction crash seriously injured while everyone else is apparently fine. It’s possible there’s a reasonable explanation for this. However, it’s also sometimes a sign of a vehicle defect.

A faulty airbag or seatbelt, for instance, could lead to someone being seriously hurt in a crash where they otherwise would have been fine. At the very least, that’s something that needs to be ruled out. If authorities didn’t do that in their investigations, they could be missing something important. As such, it’s important to follow up with authorities to see what they did and didn’t look into. If there are gaps in the story, there may need to be a secondary investigation to rule out everything.
