Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Authorities said they couldn’t determine who had the right-of-way because the passenger in the Mercedes-Benz said they had a green arrow, and there were apparently no witnesses. But if that were true, why would the driver leave the scene?
Well, authorities mentioned investigating alcohol as a possibility. It’s not clear if that contributed to this crash, but it’s a common reason drivers flee an accident scene—especially this early in the morning before bars close. They don’t want authorities to catch them drunk driving, so they figure they’ll take their chances. It could be that identifying the driver and checking things like their texts, social media, credit card statements, and other details could prove where they were prior to the accident. Is that something authorities have been looking into at all?
